HMA Architects Inc. is an architectural organization that has been practicing successfully in the Okanagan Valley for approximately 30 years. The firm was initially established as Hartley, Arajs & Turik in 1972 and developed into Hartley Turik Crawford Architects in 1980. Turik Crawford Architects was established in 1986, with the present firm being the result of the merger of Turik McKenzie Architects Inc and Art Huber Architect Inc.

HMA Architects Inc. offers a complete range of architectural services from planning and design through construction administration, and with the recent addition of our Interiors division, we offer full interior design services. Our clients are diverse from local businesses, school and College boards, through to national corporations and Provincial Government agencies.

We have developed specialization in office design, commercial-retail and multifamily residential facilities, with educational and health care commissions comprising 40% of our project base. Our projects range in size from smaller commercial and residential developments, to large-scale commercial and institutional projects.

Art Huber, MAIBC
Project Architect/ Principal

Art Huber, has practiced architecture in the Okanagan since 1993. Recent projects for which Mr. Huber has been Managing and Design Architect for include the OUC-Kalamalka Campus Continuing Education Expansion, the OUC N. Kelowna Campus Library 3rd floor Expansion Project.

Based upon his recent experience, Mr. Huber has developed a keen understanding of project requirements and appreciation for the often-competing interests characteristic of major construction projects at existing university settings.

Clive McKenzie, MAIBC
Project Architect/ Principal

Clive McKenzie has been working in the Kelowna area since 1991. Recent projects for which Mr. McKenzie has been Managing and Designing Architect include OUC North Kelowna Campus Library Expansion, Kelowna International Airport Expansion 1998- 2005, Simpson Pavilion for the City of Kelowna, Lakeshore Gardens multifamily residential complex (101 strata units), CIBC Main Branch Orchard Park Kelowna, OK Mission Professional Health Services building and residences, Breamar 101 unit Hotel and water park.

Based upon his recent experience, Mr. McKenzie has developed a keen understanding of project requirements of major construction projects at existing complex facilities. Mr. McKenzie is currently the Project Architect for the Lakeshore Gardens multifamily residential complex. Mr. McKenzie will be providing design and technical support to project.

Project Architect

Ron Chikmoroff has been practicing architecture since 1971in Saskatchewan, Alberta and now Kelowna.

His experience has included health care facilities, education, commercial and financial facilities.

Robert M. Turik, MAIBC, MRAIC
Project Architect


Robert M. Turik has been practicing architecture in the Kelowna since 1968. Under the firm of Hartley Arajs and Turik.

Mr. Turik participated in many significant projects in the Okanagan Valley. Mr. Turik was Design Architect for the OUC KLO Expansion and one of two senior partners in charge of the design for the OUC North Kelowna Campus, including the master planning. He was the partner in-charge of project coordination for Anne McClymont and Chief Tomat Elementary schools the Kelowna Library Parkade and the award winning Kelowna International Airport expansion.


Mitch Vance, MAIBC
Project Architect


Mitch Vance has been practicing in Kelowna since 1990 as a firm principal, and / or as a project architect on a wide variety of institutional and commercial projects.

For the past year, Mr. Vance has been with HMA Architects Inc. and during that time has acted as job captain for the production drawings on CIBC’s new flagship branch in Kelowna and on UBCO’s Kelowna Campus Science Building, Third floor expansion. Mr. Vance will be the project architect for this project.

Kim Larson has been designing in the Okanagan for the past 5 years specializing in Custom Home design. Recent projects include the Collins Residence in Penticton, Morelli Residence in Penticton, Souch Residence in Kaleden, Powder Hound Cafe and Saddleback Lodge at Apex Mountain Resort as well as many commercial developments in Vancouver. Kim also mentored under award-winning Architect Robert Mackenzie, where she worked on various South Okanagan projects including NK’Mip Cellars, Burrowing Owl Vineyards, Christina Lake Golf and Country Club as well as custom residences including the Gold Award winning
Buchanan Residence in Naramata. Past projects include the 2000 Animal
Liberation Society building in Australia and an energy efficient townhome
development in California.

Shelley Bowolin
Interior Designer

Shelley has been designing in the Okanagan for the past 4 years. Her experienceranges from design and drawings for home additions & renovations to Corporate Office Interiors. In the years prior to joining HMA she contracted her services to Architects, Designers, Government Ministries, Property Developers and Managers as well as individual homeowners. Recent projects include Tenant Improvements and fit ups for Government Ministries and Authorities, Bank renovations and additions and renovations for home owners. She has written for Homes and Land Vancouver and recently her designs have been featured in Okanagan Life. Shelley also teaches design courses at BCIT and Okanagan College.
